File sharing is not just about exchanging copyrighted songs or movies. It is carried out legitimately between people working together on a firm or during creative projects and people who wish to share their creative works. Peer-to-peer (P2P) process of file sharing is among the most convenient way of sharing files from one network to another, whether it is the internet, an institution network, or even a workplace network. This is a unique type of file sharing, where each computer on a particular network will function as both the server and client.

P2P file sharing with Ares Galaxy

Ares Galaxy is among the coolest and highly rated programs that make the process of P2P file sharing pretty easy. Moreover, it is a free open source program. Ares Galaxy allows rapid file sharing, since it is able to find multiple copies of any file, and it can copy pieces of that file from different sources at the same time. Academic researchers may greatly benefit by using it to quickly share large databases, while computer programmers working together on bulk software projects can easily share codes with one another. Writers and editors also can pool resources on large bodies of text without difficulties.

The user friendly Ares Galaxy features

Besides assisting in sharing of large files, Ares Galaxy has several other important features that many users love. It has a great Library Organizer that enables users to organize data files and easily search for them by use of keywords. Another incredible feature is the preview. A user can utilize preview feature to get a preview of any file before the file finishes downloading. So, if the users discover that they are downloading wrong files, they are able to stop the download instead of waiting for the entire file to arrive. Also with the use of Ares Galaxy, users can pause large downloads and pick them up again later.

Torrent poisoning is the practice of uploading fake torrents sometimes employed by anti-piracy ...

Torrent poisoning is the practice of uploading fake torrents sometimes employed by anti-piracy organizations for an attempt to gather the IP addresses of downloaders and to prevent the peer to peer sharing of copyrighted content. This act of deliberately sharing data with misleading file names using the BitTorrent protocol or corrupt data is used by BitTorrent users in order to get a”free-ride”, using clients such as BitThief. With this method, BitTorrent users are able to download content without reciprocal upload contributions.

Decoy insertion or content pollution is one method where a particular file’s corrupted versions are inserted into the network. This hinders users from finding a legit version and likewise increases the distribution of the corrupted file. A file is usually converted into another format by a malicious user polluting the uncorrupted files. The inserted file may have the same or similar metadata that may be indistinguishable from uncorrupted files.

Files intended to poison the torrent may be made available by way of high bandwidth connections to entice users to download the decoys. A large amount of computing resources is consumed by this method since the malicious server must respond to a large quantity of requests. As a result, corrupted copies are returned in exchange for queries such as executable files or a blank file that may be infected with a virus.

Another method of torrent poisoning is the index poisoning which targets the index in P2P file sharing systems. The index lets users locate the IP addresses of wanted content. For network users, this method make searching difficult. The attacker inserts into the index, a large amount of invalid data to hinder users from finding and selecting the correct resource. Invalid information may include fake IP addresses random, port numbers or content identifiers.

The server will not be able to establish a connection due to the heavy volume of invalid information when a user attempts to download the corrupted content. Users will then waste a lot of time trying to establish a connection with fake users thereby increasing the average time it takes when downloading the file. The index poisoning attack needs lesser bandwidth and server resources than decoy insertion. Moreover, the attacker need not go to the motion of transferring files nor respond to requests. Index poisoning requires less effort than the other methods of attack.

In cases of some companies disrupting P2P file sharing on behalf of content providers, the common method of spoofing is creating their own software to launch attacks. Other P2P file sharing programs create their own program which redirects users to non-existent locations via fake search results. As most users browse and normally select one of the top five search results only, this method prompts the users to persevere despite their initial failed attempts to locate the needed file. The idea is to exhaust users to simply give up the search.

Ares is a peer to peer program, a vehicle that lets information and ...

Ares is a peer to peer program, a vehicle that lets information and files transmission from one computer to another. It has become one of the most popular P2P networks in the P2P file sharing industry. In a recent study, it actually is the second most popular and most likely will be the number 1 in its class in the near future with the continuous growth in peers and more development being introduced in the system. Being popular doesn’t necessarily mean being the best. For this reason, a comparative analysis of its performance against other networks is important for you to fully comprehend the value and benefits you can get when downloading and installing the most suitable program for your file sharing needs. A fairly new but equally popular program in the market today is Xtorrent P2P which is worth comparing to for this purpose.

When you browse in a store for a product, one of the first things to consider is the equivalent price you have to pay for the product. It is common knowledge that anybody wants a reasonable price for a product that serves you well. The same principle applies when selecting a good P2P network. Ares Galaxy is open source and is absolutely free to download and install. You can get Ares Galaxy and install it to your computer without any restrictions and immediately download files right after installation. Xtorrent P2P is paid software which requires you a $25 subscription fee.

Ares Galaxy is more popular than Xtorrent P2P. Popularity is a big factor in peer to peer file sharing networks. The more popular the tool is, the better and greater choice in downloads and speeds you get in any file sharing activity. Finding files and downloading them is a breeze when using Ares Galaxy. The $25 charge on Xtorrent P2P is rather steep, discouraging users who cannot afford to shell out that much for a service which they can obviously get from free software. This further leads us to the conclusion that Xtorrent P2P is relatively a small network struggling with a few users who may have difficulty on its usage. Limited use can be very disappointing and therefore not all so practical especially if you are paying so much.

Functional compatibility with computing machines is another important factor to talk about. Ares Galaxy, by default, works on Windows operating systems, whereas Xtorrent P2P works on the competitor Mac OS X. Sure, the comparison is not considered important as to the operating systems but the point here is that more users utilize Windows operating system relatively leading us to the popularity aspect of it all. Again, the more popular the system is, the more downloads and speeds you get out of every file sharing activity. Ares Galaxy can also be operated on Mac with the use of emulation software. Several users who have been using Ares for Mac can attest and guarantee that this works perfectly fine.

Your decision on which P2P file sharing program is really a matter of how much you can afford and how well you want downloads and uploads to move. The answer should be clear. Xtorrent P2P is is very limited in its capabilities and quite expensive to acquire. Its network is small and can only run on Mac OS X. Ares Galaxy is absolutely free of charge and very popular all around the globe having millions of files that you won’t even be able download in a single lifetime.

BitTorrent is a P2P file sharing protocol utilized for distribution of bulk data ...

BitTorrent is a P2P file sharing protocol utilized for distribution of bulk data over the Internet. It is among the most common protocols used to transfer large files, and it has been estimated to affect roughly forty three to seventy percent of all Internet traffic.

The protocol is being maintained by BitTorrent, Inc. owned by programmer Bram Cohen who has designed and released the protocol in 2001. Today, there are a number of BitTorrent clients in use for various computing platforms. With 150 million active users, BitTorrent has, on average, more active users than Facebook and YouTube combined.

The BitTorrent protocol can be utilized to decrease the network and server impact of large files distribution. The BitTorrent protocol enables users to participate in hosting activities such as downloading and uploading between users simultaneously rather than file downloads from just one source server.

The protocol is actually an alternative to multiple mirror sources technique for distributing data, more old single source and can function on networks with less bandwidth so many small computing devices, like mobile phones, are capable to distribute files to numerous recipients efficiently.

A user who likes to upload a file may first create a small torrent descriptor file that can be distributed by web, email, and the like. The file is then made available through a BitTorrent node acting as a seed. Users with the torrent descriptor file can provide it to their own BitTorrent nodes which, acting as peers or leechers may download it by connecting to the seed and other peers.

The file for distribution is divided into segments or pieces. When peers receive a new piece of the file, it turns to a source of that piece or for other peers, relieving the task of keeping the original seed rather than sending that piece to every user or computer wishing for a copy. With BitTorrent, the obligation of distributing the file is commonly shared by those who want it; it is quite possible for the seed to send only one copy of the file itself and consequently distribute it to a limitless peers.

A cryptographic hash contained in the torrent descriptor protects each piece. Any modification of the piece is ensured to be reliably detected and prevents pieces received at other nodes from both malicious and accidental modifications. A node can verify the authenticity of the entire file it receives if it starts with a genuine copy of the torrent descriptor.

Downloaded pieces are not in sequence. The BitTorrent Client rearranges the pieces in the correct order and monitors which pieces can be uploaded to other peers and which pieces it needs. Pieces can be the same size for a single download like a 10MB file may be sent as forty 256kB Pieces or as ten 1MB Pieces. Downloading process of any file can be paused at any given time and may be consummated at a later date, without losing previously downloaded data, which eventually makes BitTorrent specifically useful in the downloading larger files.

This also allows the client to find more available pieces that can be downloaded instantly, rather than pausing and waiting for the next available piece in line, which altogether decreases the overall download length. A completely downloaded file becomes an additional seed. This processed shift from peers to seeders defines the total “health” of the file as projected by the frequency of a file being ready in its complete form.

Spreading of a file throughout many peer computer nodes is attributed to the distributed nature of BitTorrent. A complete successful download by any particular node increases as more peers join the cloud. This significantly reduces the original distributor’s bandwidth and hardware resource costs relative to traditional Internet distribution systems. It reduces dependence on the original distributor provides sources for the file which are generally transient and also provides redundancy against system problems making it more difficult for those who would block distribution to trace compared to the limited available files to a fixed host machine in any given situation.

In the early 1970’s through the 90’s files were shared on removable media. ...

In the early 1970’s through the 90’s files were shared on removable media. Peers gained access to remote files utilizing file system mounting, bulletin board systems, Usenet, and FTP servers. The Internet Relay Chat and Hotline allowed users to remotely communicate to exchange files and through chat. The mp3 encoding standardized in 1991, reduced audio files sizes and grew to be widely used in the late 1990s. In 1998, AudioGalaxy and MP3.com were established, the first mp3 player devices were launched and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act was unanimously passed. MP3.com provided music by unsigned artists which grew to deliver four million daily audio downloads.

Napster was released in June 1999, as an unstructured centralized peer-to-peer system, which required a central server for peer discovery and indexing. It is credited and considered the first peer-to-peer file sharing program. Napster is an online service provider that could not use DMCA’s “transitory network transmission” safe harbor. Many P2P products flunk this requirement just as Napster did. Napster offered a service where they stored and indexed file information that Napster users made available on their respective computers to enable other users to download; the files were directly transferred between the client users and the host after Napster’s authorization.

eDonkey2000, Freenet and Gnutella were released in 2000, as Napster and MP3.com were facing raps in court. Gnutella was the first decentralized file sharing network. All connecting software in the Gnutella network was considered equal, thus, there was no central point of failure for the network. In July of the same year, Freenet was launched as the first anonymity network. eDonkey2000 client and server software was released in September later that year.

Poisoned for the Mac and Kazaa were released in 2001. Distribution of its FastTrack network came about, but unlike Gnutella, it designated more traffic to ‘supernodes’ to further enhance routing efficiency. The network was encrypted and proprietary, and efforts to keep other clients such as Morpheus off of the FastTrack network were made by the Kazaa team.

Napster was sued by several recording companies in July 2001, and lost to A&M Records, Inc. Napster has been shut down to comply with court order shortly after losing the court battle. This, however, did not hinder users from their file sharing activity and were driven to seek other P2P applications. And so file sharing continued to flourish and experience exponential growth.

The most popular file sharing programs then were the Audiogalaxy Satellite client, the LimeWire client and BitTorrent protocol surpassing Kazaa, the once number 1 P2P file sharing system, which remained a favorite among users despite having legal battles and bundled malware. A Tokyo district court ruled on shutting down File Rogue and Audiogalaxy was effectively shut down with an RIAA lawsuit in 2002.

Numerous BitTorrent services were established from 2002 through 2003, including TorrentSpy, isoHunt, Suprnova.org, and The Pirate Bay. In 2002, the RIAA filed lawsuits against Kazaa users resulting to majority of universities adding file sharing regulations in their school administrative codes. eMule became the dominant client of the eDonkey network when it shut down in 2005. Police raids took down the Razorback2 eDonkey server in 2006 and likewise temporarily took down The Pirate Bay. It was at this point where pro-piracy demonstrations were held in Sweden in protest to the Pirate Bay raid.

The Pirate Bay trial ended with a guilty verdict in 2009, for the major founders of the tracker. The decision was appealed, but proved futile as they got a second guilty verdict the following year. In October 2010, Limewire was forced to shut down following a court order but the Gnutella network remained active via open source clients like gtk-Gnutella and FrostWire. Multi-protocol file sharing software, such as Shareaza and MLDonkey, was adapted to support all primary file sharing protocols. This way, users need not install and configure multiple file sharing programs.

The United States Department of Justice shut down the popular domain of MegaUpload on January 19 2012.The case involving the downfall of the most popular and world’s largest file sharing site was not well received. The hacker group Anonymous brought down several sites associated with the take-down in grave retaliation. As a result Filesonic blocked public downloads and other file sharing sites including Fileserve began to cease services. Today, Ares Galaxy remains to be one of the most popular P2P file sharing network in the industry as supported by a very large international community.

When you experience traffic throttling, you can feel frustrated when you are not able to download the right amount of files at the time you expect it. This can be compared to a road condition wherein automobiles get blocked in traffic and they are not able to reach their destination in time. Most of the time, these things cannot be helped.

When it comes to surfacing the internet, traffic throttling happens, on purpose. This is done with the attempt of Internet Service Providers (ISP) to throttle the use of bandwidth every time an end user visits some particular sites. ISP aims to support the flow of traffic towards related websites and away from their competitors and free sites.

There is a hidden motive behind traffic throttling and this is commercial in nature. ISPs want end-users to pay for services that have been provided. They call it “traffic management”. End-users wants to exercise their rights while surfing the net by choosing how, what, where and when to download. They are not aware, though, that they are being led to sites driven by commercial interests.

Though some may look at Traffic Throttling in a negative way, it has its advantages that end-users can benefit from.

µTorrent reigns as the most downloaded client on the PC platform. Windows users were sick of the bloatware and the spyware, viruses’ emanating from torrent downloads and this client has simplified the use due to its small footprint, non interference with other running programs, and simplicity of use. The µTorrent client displays a comprehensive window on which the progress of the download is displayed prominently. A graphical depiction at the bottom window displays the progress as well and individuals can choose the files from the total torrent content which they actually require while ignoring the rest. One can even play a video file through its streaming window while the download is still in progress. The user has a choice to kill the upload thereby increasing bandwidth on the ISP for download purposes alone. Limewire was its predecessor, but went into disuse after its promoters closed their website after copyright violation allegations. Frostwire is its immediate successor and retains the look of Limeware although structurally and utility-wise it has been modified to perform in a better manner. Other popular PC based file sharing clients are eMule, Bearshare, Bitlord, Bitcomet, Imesh, Shareaza, Cabos, Ares, DC++ and Vuze. The following graph depicts the install base of popular clients in terms of percentage on current machines with the PC platform.

Ares Galaxy is undoubtedly one of the most popular P2P software in the ...

Ares Galaxy is undoubtedly one of the most popular P2P software in the World Wide Web. With outstanding features, Ares Galaxy gained instant popularity among millions of peers hungry for limitless downloads. When Ares was initially released in the early 2000’s, it gained instant popularity going through the best years of growth in 2004 and 2005. Ares, then, was launched as a unique decentralized network, keeping its users safe.

Ares Galaxy included features, such as previewing files on the media player that had not been experienced in other file sharing programs. It did not take long for users to enjoy it and started sharing it. The sharing chain spread like bushfire quickly and Ares Galaxy gained media attention and some controversial issues with big corporations who tried to shut down the Ares system.

Popularity takes its toll and over the next few years, Ares was being copied by other software developers who overtook the center stage due to massive advertising budgets, which was hard for Ares to keep up. Ares Galaxy software is free and the developers do not make a cent out of developing the system, thus competing with highly advertised software is a waterloo.

This led to a slack in the development process during those years. Nevertheless, more users kept joining the network because they have been enticed by the many features Ares Galaxy has over other P2p file sharing networks. In the event of the LimeWire forcible shut down, most of its users looked elsewhere and found Ares Galaxy as the best alternative. Thus, begun another shot to fame for the dwindling popularity that Ares is experiencing.

Ares Galaxy development started off really well with unique features that stood out. Despite the many clones being produced elsewhere, Ares Galaxy remains to be one of the most popular and preferred file sharing programs by majority of peers worldwide. It is experiencing community growth by the seconds and is unstoppable as far as popularity is concerned.

The download speeds are really very quick yielding a massive collection of downloaded files plus room for more. It is a great time and opportune for you to get involved and utilize it. Downloading and installing Ares Galaxy takes just a few minutes with a worry-free easy process. Ares Galaxy is your software for life.

Ares Galaxy is distributed under the General Public License or GPL. This means that Ares Galaxy is open source software and anyone who may be interested is absolutely welcome to edit and distribute the source code. There are advantages and disadvantages of having a GPL license, but being under its terms helps to keep Ares Galaxy stay afloat and not be subject to shut down by the Government. It also aids and encourages more developers to contribute great improvements for future versions and provide feedback in helping to make the Ares experience more enjoyable for everyone.

Ares Galaxy is configured utilizing the Dephi programming language. To developers, this language is the ideal language to use. Some people feel that the language is too simple to enable more freedom in creating complex programs but for Ares Galaxy, this issue is not given weight. If you are not a serious programmer, then disregard this section and just enjoy the many other features Ares Galaxy offers.

Ares Galaxy takes the lead in the peer to peer industry with an open source file sharing program. Ares Galaxy is designed by programmers who are knowledgeable about peer to peer users’ needs. It is a compact piece of software with powerful features.

File sharing in Ares Galaxy is so easy just like playing a video game. You start by using the search function to browse on files you like. A powerful search engine does a tremendous job to dig files thoroughly from the storage library organizers, locate them and finally bring results in an incredible speed.

Since library organizers efficiently categorize files, it is not a wonder to receive good results in no time at all and if properly labeled, the file you may need will be generated in a short time.

There is a chat function in Ares Galaxy which you can utilize to communicate with other members from different peers. The interaction in chat rooms is where you will learn valuable tips and tricks from seasoned P2P users who can advise you on how to go about file sharing. Ares Galaxy ensures that you get what you want when you want it in an efficient fashion and fastest way.

The Ares Galaxy chat is quite popular and the largest for this type of venue… You’ll find just about every language and topic available and it has a search filter function to wade through the massive chat topic base. Once you have it running which is just a click away, you might have to wait a few minutes for the entire list of chats to populate if you don’t use the search filter. It is very wise to use the search filter. Just type in subjects that you’re interested in and wait a few microseconds for the list to appear.

Like in any endeavor, there are issues you need to watch out for like undesirables. It is illegal to make any file distribution of those authored with copyrights. Any file such as the latest movie releases, new computer games or an current artist’s album, may not be copied and distributed on any file sharing program. Just like in any other P2P program, be very careful. Read security features when file sharing using Ares P2P. You just don’t grab the first old file that pops up especially an executable from an unfamiliar program.

While Ares Galaxy keeps most files shared across the network perfectly fine, there’s still a chance that the illegal files containing some form of malicious content finds its way into the system which can plague your PC with viruses, adware or even spyware. These wares may compromise the security of your PC and could eventually damage other user’s personal information.

There are instances wherein a downloaded file is mislabeled. Something like the latest blockbuster turns out to be pornography. There are unscrupulous users out there who abuse the unrestricted policies that Ares Galaxy allows. Distributing pornographic material may only be offensive to some, but still pornography is considered illegal if such material employs underage actors or some other illegal subject matter. Engaging to download and distribute these types may still bring you trouble in ways you may regret after damage is done.
